As luminary of the Jim Henson Company’s "PUPPET UP!" and a trailblazer of improv, he's a founder of the uproarious "The Crazy Uncle Joe Show" at the Groundlings Theater in LA, where his comedic brilliance shines as a main company member. Ted's improvisational genius reached new heights alongside Eddie Izzard in the "One Word Improv" spectacle at LA’s Coronet Theater. Beyond the limelight, his pen has contributed to hits like "MIKE TYSON MYSTERIES" on Adult Swim and "BUCKET AND SKINNER’S EPIC ADVENTURES" on Nickelodeon. Ted Michaels is a name synonymous with innovation, laughter, and an unparalleled artistic kaleidoscope.

Day 240 - 3 Line Notes with Roddy Bogawa

Roddy Bogawa is a filmmaker and artist known for his unparalleled storytelling approach and his ability to delve into themes that deeply resonate with audiences. His films, blending documentary and narrative elements, offer an enthralling and thought-provoking journey. I've been captivated by his exploration of complex subjects like identity and memory, enriched by his experimental techniques, which truly set him apart as a distinctive voice in independent cinema. Throughout his career, Bogawa's vision and creativity have earned him critical acclaim, making him a notable figure in the film industry.

I recently had the incredible opportunity to interview Bogawa about his latest masterpiece, "Have you got it yet?" The Story of Syd Barrett and Pink Floyd. This documentary has been highly anticipated, holding a special significance as its co-director, Storm Thorgerson, a close friend of Barrett's and a renowned album designer, sadly passed away in 2013. But what’s a good documentary without a few challenges? Bogawa delivers a moving account of Barrett's life in a way that makes you feel like you lived it alongside him. Through his skillful storytelling, Bogawa also manages to leave some mystery behind.  Allowing Barrett to keep his enigma status. Overall the film left me deeply moved by the experience.

Day 239 - Barry Hay and JB Meijers

Barry Andrew Hay is a renowned Dutch musician and the charismatic lead singer of the iconic rock band Golden Earring. Born in India and later moving to the Netherlands, Hay's distinctive and powerful vocals have been a driving force behind Golden Earring's success for several decades. With a career spanning numerous hit albums and singles, Golden Earring achieved international fame and became one of the most influential rock bands in the world.

 

Barry Andrew Hay's stage presence and dynamic vocal range have captivated audiences, and his passionate performances have solidified his place as a rock legend. Besides his work with Golden Earring, Barry has also explored solo projects, showcasing his versatility as an artist.

JB Meijers is a highly talented Dutch musician, producer, and songwriter, acclaimed for his exceptional guitar skills and diverse musical abilities. With a passion for various genres, including rock, folk, and Americana, JB has been involved in numerous successful music projects throughout his career. He has collaborated with a wide array of artists, both nationally and internationally, earning him a reputation as a sought-after musician in the industry.

 

JB's mastery of multiple instruments, soulful vocals, and songwriting prowess have contributed to his success both as a solo artist and as a collaborator with various renowned musicians.

 

Having them on Dystopia Tonight was an absolute blast as both Barry Andrew Hay and JB Meijers' collaboration brought together two influential figures in the Dutch music scene, each contributing their unique strengths to create something extraordinary. Marshall Crenshaw is an iconic singer-songwriter who has left a lasting mark on the ever-changing world of music. His unmistakable pop-rock sound has etched into the hearts of music enthusiasts for decades, shaping the industry's landscape.
