Hosted by nationally touring comedian John Poveromo, Dystopia Tonight dares to ask the question: Is this too much? Are we hurtling through a dystopian nightmare, trapped in an endless, self-perpetuating whirlpool of clickbaity headlines, viral memes, and doomscroll-fueled chaos? A carnival of absurdity where every click feels like another nail in society’s coffin? Or is this the moment before we wake up, pull the plug, and rewrite the story — hoping someone remembered to hit record? Either way, welcome to Dystopia Tonight.

Day 47 - Joanne Filan
Jul 25, 2021
Jul 25, 2021
1hr 35 min
Joanne Filan is my absolute favorite person, and comic to travel on the road with. We've done clubs, colleges, theatres, for the past four years calling ourselves "The Misfits Of Comedy" and were going strong before the pandemic hit but we'll be back on the road touring again in the fall with some summer dates sprinkled in between. We goofed around a lot during this episode and I wouldn't have it any other way. Enjoy!
Joanne has had numerous TV and media appearances, including Hulu, Fox, Amazon, Here TV, Comedy Time TV, and in "Comics Favorite Jokes" in the NY Post. She can also be seen in a new documentary entitled “Words: An Exploration of Identity”. Joanne has taken part in festivals and competitions as well, from The New York Underground Comedy Festival to the Women in Comedy Festival in Boston, to the recent Ladies of Laughter Competition. She has ventured into the college circuit- hosting, featuring, and headlining in events at Bryn Mawr College, Monmouth and Lehigh Universities, and many more. She also proudly performs for the US Troops overseas. Her writing side has also come into play as she has just finished co-writing a TV pilot and is also a regular guest lecturer for creative writing classes at St. John's University- ensuring her creativity will go on, despite any side effects.

Joe Starr is an actor, writer, and comedian who has appeared in Steven Spielberg's Adventures of Tin Tin, Oliver Stone's World Trade Center, and recently as the beloved character Enzo on Kevin Can Wait! He's also one of the few comics to have done The Montreal Comedy Festival 5 years in a row, as well as a regional tour of the Just For Laughs Festival as well as being a part of the largest full national tour! More importantly, he's a close friend, and a true mensch whose knowledge of showbusiness itself would make the last king of Hollywood shatter his glass on the floor and then order another. Enjoy!

Jun 28, 2021
1hr 8 min
Recently seen in the new Mike Binder documentary on the Comedy Store on showtime Felicia Michales has been a staple of the Los Angeles stand-up scene since she was 18. She has appeared in three movies: Smart Alex, directed by Steve Oedekerk; Los Enchiladas, directed by Mitch Hedberg; and, most recently, I Am Comic, directed by Jordan Brady. She was a regular on the TV show Parental Discretion.
Also a photographer - her 2008 photography project, titled "Stand Up / Stripped Down", documents comedians and the mystery of what happens backstage in the shadows that lead from the green room to the power of the stage. "Stand Up / Stripped Down" received first place for the people's choice at the 2008 edition of The Prix de la Photographie, Paris, for photojournalism.
She is also a recipient of a CINE Golden Eagle Award for In The Weeds, a short film she wrote and directed. We had a blast talking about comedy, the scene she came up in, how it’s changed and what’s been going on pre and post pandemic. Enjoy!!

Day 38 - Jeff Cesario
Jun 27, 2021
Jun 27, 2021
1hr 20 min
I can't say enough nice things about Jeff Cesario. Jeff cut his teeth as a comedian during the comedy boom, and quickly turned his genius into being a writer and producer for The Larry Sanders show and Dennis Miller Live! Had an absolute blast talking to him about his career, comedy, and whatever the fuck is going on in the world today. Enjoy!!
